What's the difference between water-cooling spindle and air-cooling spindle?

Spindle is the main parts of CNC router. It include water-cooling spindle and air-cooling spindle. 

Now let's introduce the difference between water-cooled spindle and air-cooled spindle:

1. Cooling method: The water-cooled spindle uses water circulation to cool the heat generated after the spindle rotates at a high speed. This method will have a good effect, because the temperature after circulation will not exceed 40 degrees. The air-cooled spindle motor uses a fan to dissipate heat, and its effect is definitely not as good as water-cooled.

2. Noise: The water-cooled spindle motor is basically no noise, but the air-cooled spindle motor is very loud.

3. Service life: Because water-cooled spindle motors need to pay attention to maintenance, frequent water changes or use industrial water coolers, their service life is much longer than that of air-cooled spindle motors.

4. Precision: The axial and radial runout of the water-cooled spindle motor is basically below 0.003 mm, while the air-cooled spindle motor is far from reach.

5. Usage: Since the water-cooled spindle needs to be connected to a water pump, a bucket is needed to hold water and water pipe needs to be connected. Especially under low temperature in the cold winter, it is easier to freeze, and some customers may find it more troublesome; while the air-cooled spindle users don't have such trouble.

Therefore, when choose the spindle, we should make the comprehensive consideration on the noise, life, accuracy, use of convenience, as well as local climate and environment and other factors.

Whether water-cooling spindle or air-cooling spindle, maintenance is the best way to extend its service life. Here are some tips on how to maintain the spindle.

(1) First, clean the spindle motor after finishing work

(2) The operator should use a vacuum cleaner to clean up the waste debris on the rotor end of the spindle motor and the motor terminal after working every day, to prevent waste from accumulating on the rotor end and the terminal, so as to prevent waste from entering the bearing and speed up the high speed. Wear and tear of the bearing; prevent waste debris from entering the terminal, causing the motor to be short-circuited and burned.

(3) Every time the tool is changed, the operator must unscrew the pressure cap clamp and the tool holder cannot use the method of inserting and pulling the tool directly to change the tool.

(4) Clean the chuck after unloading the knife.

(5) The operator must clean the tool and the chuck when loading the knife.

(6) After starting the machine, the operator must check the working state of the cooling water flow of the motor, check whether the water pump is working normally, check whether the cooling water is contaminated by scale and microorganisms, check whether the pipeline is normal, and ensure the normal circulation of the cooling water. It is strictly forbidden to turn on the spindle motor without cooling water passing through the spindle motor.

(7) The air entering the spindle shall be dry and clean.

(8) Spindle should be oil sealed if it is long time no use.
